Frequently Asked Questions
IB maths (AA and AI, SL and HL), high school maths from Year 7 to HSC or VCE, and first-year university maths and statistics, including BUSS1020 and ECON10005.
Yes. I tutor students from Year 7 through to HSC or VCE, as well as IB.
All over Australia, mostly in Sydney and Melbourne so far. All sessions are online, so it doesn't matter where you live.
For most students, yes. Working online means fewer missed sessions due to illness or travel, and regular sessions are what lead to progress. The shared screen means we're both looking at the same work in real time, and everything from the session can be saved for review afterwards.
Your first session is free and lasts 30 minutes. After that, sessions are $120 an hour. There are no packages and no minimum number of sessions. The only commitment is optional: a term, if you want a regular weekly time held.
For most students, one session per week is enough. In some cases I'll recommend twice-weekly sessions if we need to make progress in a short timeframe.
No. Every session is one-to-one. Siblings each get their own session so neither gets left behind.
We meet on Zoom at your scheduled time each week. I use a shared whiteboard where we work through problems together in real time. Students can write on it too if they're using a tablet, but pen and paper works just as well. I share my screen to walk through worked examples, and everything we cover can be saved so students can review it afterwards. It's straightforward to set up and most students are comfortable with it within the first session.
The free first session is 30 minutes. Sessions are 60 minutes. Limited 90-minute sessions are available for intensive exam preparation, subject to availability.
After school and in the evening, Australian Eastern Time.
You'll need a device for the Zoom along with everything you'd normally use for maths: pen, paper, and calculator. Students can use a tablet with the shared whiteboard but it's not necessary.
Occasionally things come up. If Zoom is blocked by a school network, we switch to Google Meet. If the internet drops, a mobile hotspot is usually enough to finish the session. If a session genuinely can't go ahead, we reschedule and students are never penalised for something outside their control.
Absolutely. However, in my experience students tend to work best and speak more freely when they have the space to work independently. Most parents find that sitting in for the first session and then stepping back works well.
I'll get back to you within a few hours to talk about what the student needs and find a time for the free 30-minute session.
No. You can book sessions as you need them. If you want a regular weekly time held for you, I ask for a one-term commitment to secure it.
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. I strongly encourage students to rearrange rather than cancel so they don't lose momentum. Regular sessions are where progress comes from, so it's worth keeping them.
