Where students get stuck
Choosing the right test.
Part B questions don't tell you which method to use. Students can run a pooled t-test or a two-proportion z-test when it's labelled, but not when they have to pick it from the wording. We practise exactly that.
Distributions that look alike.
Poisson or exponential? Binomial or normal? I set questions that make you switch between them, because that's where marks go.
Reading regression output.
Interpreting slopes, dummy variables and significance from a coefficient table, and spotting problems in residual plots.
Small distinctions in the multiple choice.
z or t, a confidence interval or a prediction interval. Easy to mix up under time pressure.
